Two letters of recommendation are required. Letters should be emailed directly from referees to the HMSC Director's Office: email@example.com. Recommenders should be asked to assess your academic abilities, accomplishments, motivation, work habits, potential as a researcher and ability to participate in and benefit from a research internship program in marine science. Letters of recommendation are heavily relied on by the selection committee. Recommendations generally come from your professors rather than, for example, family friends or your supervisor from a part time job. Your professors know more about your academic skills and your potential to excel in an REU program. TIP: Give the people writing your letters information that will make it easier for them to write you a strong recommendation.
Transcripts are NOT required with initial application. Applicants selected for the program will be required to provide an official transcript for verification.
All students who are offered a position at this REU Site have until March 15th or later to accept or reject the offer. Update: This means the earliest any applicant can accept a position is March 15. We are still reviewing applications.
INITIAL REVIEW DEADLINE: February 1st, 2016 FINAL DEADLINE for applications: February 15, 2016, 5:00 p.m PST
