HsO Travel/Conference Fee Award

Background: The main purpose of the Hatfield Students Organization (HsO) is to facilitate the academic pursuits of OSU students who perform research and/or enroll in courses at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC). As part of this goal, HsO encourages students to present their research findings at professional conferences related to their field of study. To support student participation in such conferences, HsO, has created an annual award of $200 to help finance a student’s travel and/or conference fees.
Qualifications:

To apply for the HsO Travel/Conference Fee Award, the applicant must meet the following qualifications:

  • The applicant must be either an undergraduate or graduate student at Oregon State University.
  • The student must have spent at least one quarter taking classes or performing research at the HMSC in the academic year prior to applying.
  • The student must be presenting either a poster or paper at the conference..
Application:

To apply, the student must submit a written proposal (one page or less) to the president of the HsO. This proposal should contain the following:

  • Student’s name and contact information
  • The conference name, location, dates, and whether presenting a poster or paper
  • A brief justification- i.e. how the award will be spent
  • How many conferences the student has attended and presented at during the previous calendar year
  • Attach an abstract (500 words or less) for the poster or paper the student will be presenting
Deadline: April 15 and November 15
