| Purpose: |
This award is given to graduate students in residence
(spending at least half time) at the Hatfield Marine Science
Center, in recognition of research excellence and promise. |
| Amount: |
The amount to be awarded for 2012-2013 is $1,000, paid in three
equal term installments, beginning in the Fall 2012 term. |
| Criteria: |
This is generally viewed as a capstone award for students in the second half of
their graduate term at HMSC, and students are eligible for the award only one time.
The primary criteria by which applications will be evaluated
are excellence in academic and research performance, and scientific
merit of proposed research. Service activity (to OSU,
HMSC, the department, profession or community) will also be
given secondary consideration.

- One-page research summary;
- Resume, not to exceed
2 pages;
- Letter of support from the advisor, highlighting applicant’s
research achievements, plus supportive GPA status note from
academic department.

Application cover letter should state graduate degree sought and current
financial support. Applicants with previous awards from HMSC should
clearly indicate the level of past support, be certain that reporting
requirements have been met, and provide a paragraph describing past
progress or results.
The criteria by which applicants will be evaluated include: scientific
merit (creativity and feasibility of proposed research and potential
implications); academic performance and research experience; and service
activity (to institution, community, profession).
