Native peoples of the Pacific Northwest have depended on the natural resources of the coastal environment for centuries. This weekend course/workshop explores how native people use the richness of the estuary in their technology and foods. It will include discussions of plants and animals with specific focus on sea mammals (notably, the sea otter) and on plants used in basketry. We will consider the prehistoric record; how we know what we know (about native use); and will balance our program with lecture-discussions and activities. Native and non-native experts will join us. The workshop includes preparations of a native lunch on Sunday.

Students can stay at the bunk-house for $16.50 a night; please contact roberta hall, for more information.

More workshops are expected – See program web site for updates.
