Aeromonas Salmonicida

    Aeromonas salmonicida is a disease causing fish pathogen which has high economic impact due to its diverse host range and widespread distribution.  It is an immotile rod-shaped gram negative bacteria of 2-3 um in length and is a species of the genus Aeromonas.^1,5  Although A. salmonicida is well known as the causative agent for the disease furunculosis in salmonids, it can also manifest itself with other conditions in non-salmonids.  These atypical strains produce an ulcerative disease in Goldfish and trout, erythrodermititis of common carp and sytemic infections in several warm water and marine species.²
