Aeromonas Salmonicida

Aeromonas salmonicida is a disease causing fish pathogen which has high economic impact due to its diverse host range and widespread distribution. It is an immotile rod-shaped gram negative bacteria of 2-3 um in length and is a species of the genus Aeromonas.1,5 Although A. salmonicida is well known as the causative agent for the disease furunculosis in salmonids, it can also manifest itself with other conditions in non-salmonids. These atypical strains produce an ulcerative disease in Goldfish and trout, erythrodermititis of common carp and sytemic infections in several warm water and marine species.2
