Inclement Weather Guidance

If it becomes necessary for the HMSC to close because of extremely inclement weather or other hazardous conditions, employees will be notified that they should not report for work. Information regarding closures will reach employees in the following ways:

  1. When a decision is made to close the HMSC, a prerecorded message reporting the closure will be placed on the HMSC's central switchboard number, 541-867-0100 and the OSU Dept. of Public Safety Information Phone Line, 541-737-8000. If a decision is made during the workday to close early, notification will also be made via email to agency administrative contacts and the HMSC community list.

  2. In some cases, supervisors will call employees at home to inform them of the closure (particularly if the day prior to closure is a business day and specific employees weren’t at work).

  3. The HMSC will ask that closure announcements be made on the following radio stations:
    Stations
Yaquina Bay Communications (KBCH 1400AM; KCRF 96.7FM; KYTE 102.7FM; KNPT 1310AM)
Boss Radio (KPPT 100.7FM);  KCUP (1230AM); and  KSHL (97.5FM)
    OPB Radio: KLCC / KLCO-Newport (90.5 FM) and KOAC-Corvallis (550AM)

  4. Unless otherwise informed, employees are to assume that the HMSC is open and that they are to report to work.
