What Lies Beneath?

Fall Home School Day

Friday, Sept. 28, 2009

Registrations begin July 1 - please check back then.

The OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center turns into your Home School Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.with:

  • Hands-on labs with live animals
  • Scientific data collection and analysis
  • Special crafts and activities for younger students
  • Quest outdoor activities or guided tour
  • Resource lists and 10% bookstore discount on educational materials!

PK-8 welcome (Anchovies must be accompanied by an adult). Fee: $20 per student. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited.

NEW: Professional development courses are available for home school educators from 10:30 to 2:30 for $15/person. Topics will include Science Inquiry, Make and Take Sampling Gear, and Integrating Science and Math through Oceanography. Tons of resources and curricula will be provided.

Build A Habitat

 

Students are introduced to a variety of marine organisms as they create miniature ocean habitats in this hands-on class. >

Clamming it Up

 

Students will investigate a number of different clams as they explore a sandy environment and gather numerical data to graph.

Camouflaged Critters

 

Observe a variety of marine organisms that are able to hide in plain sight and create your own unique creature

Grades 3-8

Animal Adaptations

-Students will compare and contrast the adaptations of organisms living in three different marine habitats in this hands-on program.

Squid Dissection

 

Learn about the elusive squid as we study the internal and external anatomy in this fascinating lab.

Deep Sea Detectives

 

- Explore the mysteries of the deep as we learn about the creatures found there and conduct our own experiment with bioluminescence.
Additional Activities for All Ages
Fish Printing Bring a T-shirt or pillowcase to create your own marine masterpiece!
Mystery Dig Test your archealogical skills as you uncover ancient marine fossils.
Visitor Center Tour, Octopus Handling and Quests
