Build a Habitat
(Grades K-2)
|
This class introduces younger students to marine animals
as they create miniature ocean habitats complete with snails, crabs,
barnacles, food and shelter, in this hands-on lab. |
1 hour |
Animal Adaptations
(Grades 3-12)
|
Students observe marine animals and discover
the many adaptations for survival in the marine environment. Students
will examine mussels, barnacles, cockles, sea stars, and other common
sea creatures during this hands on laboratory. |

Crab Lab
(Grades 3-12)
|
Students will work with a variety of live
crabs, shrimp, and other crustaceans in this hands-on lab. Students
will investigate classification, anatomy, and adaptations of each
of these animals. |
1 hour |
Squid Dissection
(Grades 4-12) |
Come and learn about these molluscs from
the inside out. Investigate both external and internal anatomy while
studying how these invertebrates are adapted for life in the sea.
Students will also learn how to use dissection tools and proper dissection
techniques. |

|
Rocky Intertidal Lab
(Grades 5-12) |
Discover the rocky intertidal habitat and the creatures that live there. Learn about the forces of nature such as tides, waves, and water temperatures that make this ever-changing environment a challenging place to live. Understand relationships among living things and this complex environment and how factors change the balance of populations. Learn how and why scientists study the population dynamics of the rocky intertidal zone. |
|
Invertebrate Taxonomy
(Grades 9-14)
|
Use live animals and dried specimens to put these
invertebrates in their place. Students will review classification
and examine characteristics and taxonomic relationships of the phyla Porifera,
Cnidaria, Arthropoda, Mollusca, and Echinodermata. |
