The following activity is designed to focus studentís attention on
a new resource management tool, Marine Protected Areas. The activity asks students
to review background information supplied on cards that give information that
supports the need for a marine protected area and the negative impacts it would
have on the fishing industry. Students are given maps and directed to select
a site for the Marine Protected Area or decide not to designate an area. They
then must decide on regulations for their MPA or set up regulations that will
help fish stocks to recover. The students give presentations at the conclusion
of the activity.
