Banded shrimp

While clearly not a primary research focus in our lab, the larval supply and recruitment of marine invertebrates is also of broad interest. Projects have ranged from extensive nightly time-series of larval supply of brachyuran crabs to Barbados (Reyns & Sponaugle 1999) to a collaboration with Dr. Mark Butler’s lab in examining lobster dispersal (e.g. Butler et al 2011). Undergraduates have used our data to investigate of patterns of stomatopod larval supply (Page Roberts) and the abundance and composition of zooplankton collected in light traps deployed on shallow, deep, and mesophotoic reefs (Kathryn Doering). For as long as we can, we retain all plankton and light trap samples with the optimistic expectation that time and resources will eventually enable the analysis of these data for invertebrates.
