Bruce Koike combines art and science in “Gyotaku” (ghio-tah-ku) artwork. Gyotaku is the art of painting a fish, applying rice paper, and then rubbing the rice paper with the fish underneath in order to capture the image on the rice paper. Fish have played a significant role in Bruce Koike’s early life. He earned a Master of Science degree in Fisheries at Oregon State University and upon graduation has worked in major public aquariums in both New Orleans, Louisiana and Newport, Oregon. Currently, Bruce directs the Aquarium Science Technology Program at Oregon Coast Community College.   Koike ray print

Ryan Bledsoe knows glass. The entrepreneur has 11 years of experience under his belt as owner and operator of Hummingbird Auto Glass, and four years ago, he embarked on an artistic journey to learn the art of glass blowing. In June 2005, Bledsoe took his craft to the next level with the opening of The Edge Gallery in South Beach, where he can be found nearly every day giving glass blowing demonstrations or classes in the gallery's on-site hot shop.   Bledsoe glass
