Welcome to Oregon State University's Hatfield Marine Science Center Visitor Center. We look forward to helping your youth/school group have a safe and exciting educational experience.
Construction and weather delays on highways to the coast may affect your travel time to the Visitor Center. Please allow extra time, and check ODOT Trip Check before you depart.
Look over our classes to see what best fits your students' needs. Be sure to consider the tides when choosing an outdoor program, as many of our outdoor programs necessitate a low tide. You may also want to consider doing a Quest while at Hatfield. Three onsite Quests can be downloaded and printed here.

If your students wish to explore the Visitor Center during normal public hours, we suggest a $1.75/person/hour donation. To register for a visit through the Visitor Center during open hours, click here.
If your visit occurs when the Center is closed to the public, you may arrange in advance for your students to explore the exhibits for a fee of $1.75/person/hour ($40/hour minimum).
Field Trip Confirmation
Once you have made your reservations, you will receive a confirmation message and cost estimate. The cost is based on the number of students scheduled to participate. Numbers may be adjusted without penalty up to 48 hours prior to the visit. Bringing fewer students the day of the program due to illness or other absence will not result in a fee reduction or refund.
Please check your confirmation message when it arrives to ensure the information and dates are correct.
Fees charged will be based on the number of students reported during registration plus any extra chaperones or students brought the day of your visit.
Have a PO or check payable to HMSC Sea Grant ready when you arrive. Please let us know upon your arrival how many students and chaperones you have in your group, if invoicing is necessary. You may make a credit card payment before or after your program.
Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance to avoid being charged a fee of $75 per hour program.
Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your class is to begin. Please check road conditions before you set out, and remember to budget time for a restroom break into your plans so that the students are ready to start class on time. Restrooms are located in the Visitor Center.
Upon your arrival, check in with the education staff at the Visitor Center front desk while your students are unloading. Students and chaperones should remain outside the Visitor Center front doors until instructions and/or introductions are given (being careful not to block other visitors from entering or exiting the building). If your confirmation indicates that your students need to be divided into smaller groups, please have that done before you arrive.
If your group arrives 20 minutes late, class will be forfeited and a “No Show” fee of $75 will be applied.
Please share the following behavior expectations with your students:
- Stay with your group and chaperones
- Be courteous and respectful of all visitors and staff
- Use indoor voices; walk, don’t run
- Be respectful of the exhibits and the buildings
- Don’t climb or pound on exhibits
- Where permitted, touch the animals gently
- Do not pick up or move the animals in the touch tanks
- Keep food, drinks and gum out of the buildings

We do not have dining facilities, vending machines or indoor/covered locations for lunch breaks. Please plan accordingly.
