Formal and informal learning opportunities at the Visitor Center

LAB & FIELD PROGRAMS

Marine education class

Oregon Sea Grant's marine educators offer a variety of marine science learning programs for young people and those who teach them.

Teachers and homeschool parents can pick from our selection of hands-on classes to meet educational goals, or register groups for our popular Career Day and Homeschool Day programs in the spring and fall.

The Visitor Center is also an important resource for science teachers, offering top-quality professional development opportunities and curricula to expand their science knowledge and teaching skills.

YOUTH & FAMILY

Father and daughter interact with an exhibit

Children and families find fun and learning at the Visitor Center, where our interactive exhibits facilitate shared scientific exploration.

Our Summer Day Camps and Family Programs plunge budding investigators into the fascinating world of marine science.

Our popular Oregon Coast Quests program leads people of all ages on fascinating clue-based adventures that focus on the environment and history of coastal communities.

LEARNING IN A MUSEUM LAB

Shark dissections draw large crowds

The Visitor Center serves as a living museum lab for the Free-Choice Learning program, where researchers study how people learn, especially in informal environments.

In addition, the wet exhibits of the Visitor Center provide training for future aquarists, veterinarians and researchers.  The Aquatic Animal Health Program determines best practices for maintaining healthy aquaria, and shares this information with industry professionals around the world.
