Formal and informal learning opportunities at the Visitor Center

SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Marine education class

Oregon Sea Grant's marine educators offer a variety of marine science learning programs for young people and those who teach them.

Teachers and homeschool parents can schedule programs tailor-made to their students or register groups for our popular Career Day and Homeschool Day programs in the spring and fall.

The Visitor Center is also an important resource for science teachers, offering top-quality professional development opportunities and curricula to expand their science knowledge and teaching skills.

YOUTH & FAMILY

Father and daughter interact with an exhibit

Children and families find fun and learning at the Visitor Center, with special programs to help scouts fulfill natural science badge requirements, and summer Day Camps that plunge budding investigators into the fascinating world of ocean and coastal science.

Our unique Las OLAS program aims to serve diverse audiences with monthly Ocean Science Learning Nights for Spanish-speaking families and support for multilingual K-12 classrooms.

FREE-CHOICE LEARNING

Shark dissections draw large crowds

Formal classes are just one way people learn; for most of us, learning is a life-long process of making choices about what we want to explore and where.

The Visitor Center serves as a living lab for The Free-Choice Learning Initiative, joint effort of Oregon Sea Grant and the OSU College of Science researching how people learn. And our popular Oregon Coast Quests program leads people of all ages on fascinating clue-based adventures to learn more about coastal history and environment.
