Summer Session 2012

STICKY SCIENCE

Friday, July 6th
1pm - 3pm

Why do anemone tentacles feel sticky when touched?  How do mussels hold on to rocks?  What do sea stars use to cling, pull and tug their way through life?  Discover for yourself the many adhesive charateristics that help these and other marine animals survive in the rocky intertidal zone.

FEELING "ART-SEA"

Friday, July 13th
1pm - 3pm

Come observe the many marine organisms in our wet labs.  Then use what you've seen to make ocean-inspired art projects.  Create fish prints, foil relief images, urchin sculptures, and more!  Dress for a mess!

GUIDED QUEST

Friday, July 20th
1pm - 3pm

Explore the outdoors and discover hidden treasures by joining us on a clue-directed hunt in the natural areas around the Hatfield Marine Science Center.  On this brand new "Quest" families will work together to read maps, follow directions, and collect clues that will help us find the hidden box.  Also on our journey, we'll pause to investigate salinity, plants, and bird life.  Each family will receive a copy of The Oregon Coast Quests Book, 2011/2012 EditionDress for the outdoors!
