Oregon Coast Quests - Updates and Corrections

Stop to smell the flowersAs the Quests program grows, so do our Quest Books - each of the four Quest Book editions is larger than the last! We strive to maintain the clues and boxes so that they work properly all year round. However, sometimes signs are changed, trees fall down, and other unforeseen circumstances cause small problems with Quest directions. If the problems cannot be corrected in the field, we will post updates on this page and then make updates in future books. It’s a good idea to check this page before heading out on a Quest, especially if you have an older version of the Quest Book.

The best way to avoid confusion and surprises is to obtain the most up-to-date Quest Book available.

Please report any problems with Quests to the box monitor and/or to Cait Goodwin at cait.goodwin@oregonstate.edu. Thank you for your help!

Large tree uprooted at Big Creek ParkWEATHER ALERT:  High winds, erosion and flooding in this winter may have caused problems with some Quest routes.  As always, use caution and common sense when exploring outdoors!

<--This large tree uprooted at Big Creek Park landed on Clue #9.  The clue (letter C) was still visible on the crushed fencing material in early April.

When doing the Cutler City Wetlands Quest, be prepared to climb over or under the fallen trees that are lying across the trail!  Parts of the Cape Perpetua Discovery Loop Trail may be closed due to fallen trees.  Check with the Visitor Center before you go!

The Yaquina Head Stewardship Quest now has one small discrepancy in the instructions: A sidewalk was once graced by a “yellow curb” but recent construction has led to the curb being flattened and repainted. Now, please use the end of the sidewalk where it makes a U-turn for your directional clue.

The Cutler City Wetlands Quest has been modified to reflect significant changes made to the trail.  You can download a new version of the Quest here.
