E-Sea Tour

This tour gives you an introduction to just a few of the center's marine residents-- the fatherly Black Prickleback, with a Latin name only a Scrabble player could love; the frothy strawberry anenome; the devoted and territorial Pacific octopus. Learn what they eat, where they live, and what eats them.

European geren crab

European Green Crab
This small shore crab (Carcinus maenas) is an example of an invasive species. The European Green Crab normally lives along the coasts of the North and Baltic seas, but has been found off the Oregon and Washington coasts, the East Coast, South Africa and Australia.

Despite its name it can have a red or orange shell. The crab is an effective predator. It is more skilled at opening shells than other crabs, moves faster, and eats a wider variety of foods. It could seriously alter any ecosystem it invades and has already been blamed for the collapse of the soft-shell clam industry in Maine.
