Welcome to the 2019 Summer REU application page! Please check back between January 1, 2019 and February 19, 2019 to apply for the Summer 2019 program.
Please follow application instructions below:
Application covers both HMSC (Newport) and CEOAS (Corvallis) REU opportunities in marine, estuarine, earth and atmospheric sciences. Review both lists of HMSC mentors and CEOAS mentors and indicate areas of interest for which you wish to be considered. If you wish to only be considered for an internship at HMSC in Newport, list only HMSC mentors and research areas on your application. If you wish to only be considered for an internship at CEOAS in Corvallis, list only CEOAS mentors and research areas on your application. Past REU projects can be viewed by year using menu at right.
Two letters of recommendation are required. Please direct Referees to the below RECOMMENDATION SUBMISSION FORM link for submitting their letters. Recommenders will be asked to assess your academic abilities, accomplishments, motivation, work habits, potential as a researcher and ability to participate in and benefit from a research internship program in marine science. Letters of recommendation are heavily relied on by the selection committee. Recommendations generally come from your professors rather than, for example, family friends or your supervisor from a part time job. Your professors know more about your academic skills and your potential to excel in an REU program. TIP: Give the people writing your letters information that will make it easier for them to write you a strong recommendation.
Transcripts are NOT required with initial application. Applicants selected for the program will be required to provide an official transcript for verification.
All students who are offered a position at this REU Site have until March 15th or later to accept or reject the offer. Update: This means the earliest any applicant can accept a position is March 15.
FINAL DEADLINE for applications: February 19, 2019, Midnight PST
Application and Program Information: Itchung Cheung (541-867-0380)
