We were successful in completing 4 days (over 4 weeks) of activity watch surveys this year, resulting in nearly 57 hours of observation! The data are yet to be analyzed but it looks like there were about 20-25 observed feeds per activity watch. The chicks are pretty big now and should be fledging any day. If you have the chance to go to Yaquina Head around sunset over the next couple of days you might be able to see some of the chicks make their leap from the colony down to the water! Be sure to park outside the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area boundaries and walk or bike in, as the gates are closed and locked between 8:15 pm and 8:30 pm during the month of August.
