Robert Cowen

Bob Cowen
Dr. Robert (Bob) Cowen is Associate Vice President for Research & Operations of Oregon State University's Hatfield Marine Science Center and a professor in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences.

He became the Director of the Hatfield Marine Science Center in July 2013. Prior to coming to Oregon, he served on the faculty at the University of Miami since 1998, and before that he was a member of the faculty of State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Dr. Cowen received his Ph.D. from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, California. He has extensive experience in marine science, including coastal fish ecology, fishery oceanography, larval transport, and marine organism population connectivity from both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. He is also co-PI for the Plankton Ecology Lab. His additional expertise in marine education serves the Hatfield Marine Science Center well in the development of an expanded marine science curriculum and in support of the Center’s research and outreach endeavors.
