Campers show what they've found on the beachEach summer, Oregon Sea Grant hosts a number of summer day camps for youth 8 to 18 years old. Each camp is four days long, running Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 3 pm.

Summer day camps at HMSC give young people an opportunity to interact with researchers and learn about the marine environment through hands-on programs and field trips. Topics covered in each camp differ, but range from marine technology to marine mammals

Mark your calendars for 2019!  Registration will open Monday, January 7, 2019.

Summer 2019 Day Camps

Coastal Explorers

Campers Ages: 15-18

July 8-11, 2019

Fees: $185

Discover how organisms interact with their environment as we explore a variety of coastal habitats. Across dunes, tide pools, estuaries, and coastal forests, we'll hear from different researchers and compare different field sites using ecological monitoring techniques. Campers will also design and conduct their own field investigation.

Marine Mammals

Campers Ages: 13-14

July 15-18, 2019

Fees: $185

Campers will learn about the diversity and unique adaptions of marine mammals through a variety of hands-on activities and field trips. We will explore nearshore environments, observe these animals in their natural habitat, and hear from scientists about how they conduct research in the field and laboratory.

Ocean Investigations

Campers Ages: 11-12

July 22-25, 2019

Fees: $185

We will dive deep and investigate how we use, explore, and are working to conserve our dynamic ocean environments. Campers will learn how scientists are using technology to study deep ocean and nearshore habitats, examine how microscopic plastics are impacting animals and beaches, engage in ocean conservation activities, and more.

Crusty Crustaceans

Campers Ages: 8-10

July 29 - August 1, 2019

Fees: $185

Campers will discover characteristics that help crustaceans survive in marine environments by exploring their lifecycle, from early planktonic through adult stages. We will uncover the diversity of crustaceans in tidepools and mudflats, view and identify planktonic crustaceans under the microscope, design experiments utilizing crustaceans, and more! Researchers will also share what it’s like to work with these fun critters.
