Marine Studies Initiative Intern Presentations

Learn about the Marine Studies Initiative (MSI) Internship Opportunities summer coastal projects that focus on interdisciplinary ocean and coasts topics. The goal of the MSI is to work with programs across the Oregon State University campus and develop opportunities for learning outside the classroom, including internships that give students research and career experiences locally, nationally and internationally.

 

2023 HATFIELD MARINE SCIENCE CENTER SUMMER COASTAL INTERN SYMPOSIUM

This event gives all of our summer interns (50+) an opportunity to share the research and scholarship from multiple programs and partnerships in a poster session format while enhancing their skills in communicating scientific ideas and findings to wider audiences. As many of the trainees will be presenting for the first time, they will value the support of the Hatfield community. Featured programs include:

 

2023 Oregon Sea Grant Summer Scholars Final Symposium

Thursday, Aug. 24, 10 am - 12:30 pm | Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building Room 176

The Oregon Sea Grant Summer Scholars have done amazing work on interesting topics with a variety of Oregon-based host organizations (tribal, public agency, non-profit, non-governmental). The goal of the OSG Summer Scholars Program is to contribute to a diverse ocean workforce that understands the technical and social challenges facing coastal communities and the natural environment. Presentations will be recorded and live-streamed from Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building Room 176.

Internships @ Hatfield

 

The Hatfield Marine Science Center offers a broad range of internships through a variety of programs, departments and agencies affiliated with the center. Opportunities exist for graduates, undergraduates and community college students.

Potential research areas include:

  • collection and analysis of fish/zooplankton
  • marine predator/prey studies
  • Pacific halibut ecology/behavior studies
  • physical oceanography
  • science education and informal learning
  • science communication and outreach
